Blurb: The perfect woman was out there, I had her once and I would have her again.

It was time to do something drastic. Most of my life had been spent in the shadow of my twin brother, Deck.

I was tired of being the ‘great’ Deck Johnston’s quiet underachieving twin.

I needed to break out and forge my own path in life.

I had aspirations just like Deck, I may not have wanted to be a soldier like him, but joining the police force was my perfect choice.

The next thing on my to-do list was love; find my perfect partner and be part of something special.

I found ‘The One’ then lost her minutes later … but lucky for me, I found her again years later.

There was just one problem. She used to be Deck’s.

They were just friends now, but that didn’t stop the memories of our turbulent years of fighting and arguing to cloud my brain.

So what happens when two brothers reconnect and you throw a beautiful woman into the mix?

All hell breaks loose.

May be spoilers:

I received an ARC for an honest review.

To start off, I’m a huge fan of Leah Sharelle. I love her writing. The Wounded Souls series was by far one of my favorites. If you have not read that series, I really do recommend reading it first, and the Firemen Do it Better series, just because we’ve seen Jason from the very first book. I was a little hesitant to start this one, but I knew that she would make it good. I will say that I probably wouldn’t have read this one if it had of been by anyone else. Definitely want tissues for the read.

Love Hurts: The Love Duet has 20 chapters with an epilogue and is about Jason and Zoe. From the other stories, we know what the end is, but this is telling their story in their own words from the beginning.

We definitely see how Jason and Deck are together. The bickering and fighting started when they were very young. Doesn’t help when the mother plays favorites and makes Jason feel like crap.

Sparks fly when Jason and Zoe meet. She kisses him thinking he’s Deck. 10 years go by before they see each other again and she was just with Deck a month before they meet again.

This is a hard one for me. I’m not a fan of triangles, thankfully this wasn’t like that, but there is still a lot of jealousy.

Zoe never loved Deck, but they were friends with benefits for 11 years. Her and Jason fall in love quickly. Thankfully, we don’t have to see either of them with anyone else.

Lots of drama, jealousy, angst. They are apart for 3 days when he blows up about the pregnancy and finds out her and Deck kissed on the night they see each other again.

This story. Lots of emotions flying. Sadness. The writing was amazing, definitely feel every emotion.

So very sad. Even though I knew what the ending would be, it’s still heartbreaking.

Kind of worry about the second part. I know it’s years later, but it’s hard to top “the one”.

I do love that we get to see everyone from the Wounded Souls series. Can’t wait for the next. Great read. I loved it. I’m a huge fan of happy ever afters, and this is definitely not that, but I did love reading their story. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
